Lennon Letter to Clapton Up for Auction

  John Lennon’s 1971 letter to Eric Clapton inviting him to form a band goes up for auction December 18^th.  Said John: “Eric, I know I can bring out something great, in fact greater in you that had been so far evident in your music. I hope to bring out the same kind of greatness in all of us, which I know will happen if/when we get together.”  Clapton had played in the Plastic Ono Band in 1969. 

The auction also includes letters from Beethoven, Tchaikovsky and George Gershwin, as well as Charles Dickens and George Washington. The Lennon letter is expected to fetch up to $30,000 US at the auction in Los Angeles.
